‘Landman’ Cast Reveals What It’s Really Like Working With Taylor Sheridan

Cast members from Taylor Sheridan’s Landman and The Madison crossed paths at Paramount+’s All Trails Lead Here event celebrating the two award-contending television shows that take place in Sheridan’s broader western universe that kicked off with Yellowstone.

Stars Andy Garcia and James Jordan shared how eager they were to work with Sheridan in the roles of Gallino and Dale Bradley. Jordan, Mustafa Speaks and Sam Elliott boiled it down to the writing.

“A lot of the time, you just got to get out of the way of Taylor’s words,” Jordan said. “He’s done the heavy lifting for you, he’s done the hard part. If you just get out of the way and trust it, the story unfolds, and, obviously, the audience shows up, they stick around and they love what’s being told.”

Speaks called Sheridan a “genius,” emphasizing how he was affected by the themes, and he’s in the show portraying some of them.

Elliottt, who portrays T.L. Norris in the show about oil empires, remarked that “the beauty of Taylor’s [work] is [it’s] often grounded in the truth.”

“That spoke volumes to me,” the actor, who also appears in 1883, added. “It speaks to people somehow. There’s a reason that a lot of people are watching this show.”

Paulina Chávez, who stars as Ariana in the show, chimed in for the women in the show and those watching it.

“They always deserve a seat at the table — I’m not gonna curse — but they deserve a seat at the table and our voices matter, and our power matters,” she said.

Billy Bob Thornton, who stars as Tommy Norris, pointed out that four veteran stars, Sam, Demi, Andy and himself, had their longtime history to fall back on when it came to building cast chemistry.

Both Landman and The Madison have been renewed for new seasons, with Landman heading into its third and The Madison getting a second, but the Landman stars could not divulge any details about what to anticipate in season 3.

“As long as people want to keep seeing us show up, we’ll show up,” Jordan said.
