Amy Duggar Fires Back at Critics Who Accused Her of Exploiting Husband Dillon’s Medical Crisis for Money

Two days after Amy Duggar opened up about the rare medical diagnosis her husband, Dillon King, is facing, she’s coming out swinging against those who believe she’s exploiting the situation for money. Earlier this week, Amy shared an update on Dillon’s health exclusively with People, but after some critics accused her of trying to profit off of her husband’s suffering, the former reality star is setting the record straight.

Amy’s interview with People was published earlier this week.

After hinting that Dillon was facing a scary medical diagnosis in an Instagram post she shared last week, Amy explained to People that a CT scan revealed that Dillon had a 4-inch tear in his diaphragm and several of his vital organs were now “displaced.”

“Dillon has been diagnosed with a severe diaphragmatic rupture – an extremely rare and dangerous condition that has caused vital organs, including his kidney and parts of his digestive system, to shift into his chest cavity,” she told the magazine.

She went on to say that though her husband is now considered stable and is “resting comfortably at home,” they still have a long road ahead to get Dillon healthy again.

It didn’t take long for critics to question her intentions.

On Reddit, critics weren’t buying Amy’s story, with one calling her an “insipid drama queen.” Others wrote that they believed Amy’s interview with People was a grab for either attention or cash.

“Surprised there wasn’t a Go Fund Me link,” one commenter wrote. Another person commented, “they got bills to pay.”

Now, Amy’s fighting back.

Amy took to her Instagram Stories on Thursday to put the truth out there: She did not get paid for sharing her story with People – instead, she was just hoping to be able to explain what Dillon is going through and have a wider group of people praying for his recovery.

“It is so sad to me how people think that I could stoop so low and to think that, like, if you click on the link to to read what Dillon’s diagnosis is, that I get paid,” she said in her video. “Oh, there’s money involved. There is absolutely zero money involved.”

She went on to say that it was a “long story” and this was an easier way for her to share it. “People are just so programmed or groomed to think that everything has to do with money and that there’s always someone looking for a handout,” she said in the clip. “There is not anything like that involved.”

She’s also thanking fans for their support.

Once Amy was able to get her rant off of her chest, she shared a photo of Dillon with their son, Dax, and thanked everyone who had been praying for their family.

“It means more than I can say as we navigate the next steps for his overall health,” she wrote in her Instagram post. “Life can feel overwhelming and uncertain at times, but even in the middle of fears and the unknown, we are choosing to put our full trust in Jesus.”
