Bringing Up Bates star Carlin Bates has been slammed by followers for exploiting her sick child. Kids fall ill all of the time, but it is the way that parents approach it that matters. Carlin Bates Slammed For Exploiting Sick Child
It has been a big year for Carlin Bates and her family. The Bringing Up Bates alum announced in February 2025 that she and her husband, Evan Stewart, are expecting baby number three. This new addition will join their daughter, Layla, 5, and son, Zade, 3, and will arrive in September 2025. They are all so excited as this is not the only Bates grandchild on the horizon. Lawson and Tiffany Bates shared that they were having baby number two while Kelton and Josie Bates Balka are welcoming baby number four.
With all of this going on, it is easy to get distracted or overshare too much information. Such is the case with Carlin and her daughter, Layla. She recently shared a snap of Layla, at the doctor’s office, after she needed a lump checked out. Layla could be seen laying down on an examining bed, with painted police men all around her. Carlin shared why the five-year-old was being seen and added that they would give a full update on their channel. One big issue fans had was that it was Carlin’s followers who initially spotted the lump.
Therefore, they did not think the former Bringing Up Bates star would have done anything about it had people not come forward. It also bothered many that they had taken a snap of Layla when she was extremely vulnerable, all to get views for their channel. Finally, it was questioned why Carlin Bates needed to give an update to anyone other than close family. It may have been due to the fact that it was the fans who noticed the lump, so a status update was vital.

Bringing Up Bates fans felt that this was not something Carlin Bates should be sharing. Moreover, she should be letting her daughter heal in peace. Unfortunately, that was not happening, and she was raked over the coals for this act. It was stated that they could easily get jobs but rather opt to exploit their family for cash:
- Wait til these kids are at an age to realize that their parents sold their childhood, and their family life – everyday, holidays, and even vacations. All because they are too sorry to get jobs
- It’s disgusting how they exploit their vulnerable children to the masses. This is so uncomfortable and pathetic for Carlin and her husband to do. Those poor children are nothing more than dollar signs to their parents.
Hopefully, Carlin Bates will listen to fans’ concerns and what they have to say, maybe being more careful as to what she shares. As of now, it does not appear she will stop as this is her bread and butter.
