Todd and Julie were in prison for 28 months for bank fraud. While the couple never accepted their crimes, President Trump pardoned them. As a result, they are now free. However, the couple is still having difficulties adjusting back to normal life. Todd revealed on his podcast that life in prison is rough, but at this moment, they are experiencing a particularly tough phase.
He understands that it was a horrific experience and that the conditions in prison were terrible from a physical standpoint. But from an emotional and psychological perspective, it’s harder to deal with life on a day-to-day basis. Julie further explained that prisoners don’t have any control over their lives behind bars. There is very little they can do, and it’s crazy. When she first arrived, people told her that she couldn’t live freely and had to follow many rules.
The longer one stays in prison, the more they disassociate from the normal world. Julie and Todd also reflected on how difficult it was for them to stay away from their children. It was like a double-edged sword because things got easier when they followed a routine in prison, but the longing increased. They loved and missed them a lot, but they couldn’t do much about it.
They were so busy taking care of their mental, physical, spiritual, and emotional well-being that the rest of the world closed off for them. The couple explained that they no longer have to answer to a probation officer and no longer face limited movement. All these things are mind-boggling, and they feel thrown into the real world.
