Jessa Seewald’s Birth Story Sparks Backlash – Here’s What Critics Are Saying

Counting On alum Jessa Seewald recently gave birth to her sixth child, who arrived in late July. The newborn weighed in at 10 pounds and measured 21.5 inches long. The information arrived in a two-part blog about her birth story, but some TLC fans seem irritated. Read on to find out why.

What Are Fans Irritated?

On Monday, Jessa took to her Instagram and shared a screenshot from her YouTube blog. In her caption, she wrote, “Birth Story: Part 2 is now live! Labor & delivery, baby’s arrival! Click the link in my bio to check it out!”

While many responses were kind and happy, others in the comments slammed the former TLC star. One of them wrote, “I’m so frustrated I sat thru all of this video and she doesn’t announce it, what! What was up with that? ugh never again, I feel used all for clickbait and money. Not cool Jessa.” Another follower also revealed their frustration, saying, “it’s all@for the income she makes !? They monetize their lives so she doesn’t have to get a job. Lots of ppl will pay what people magazine will report next week.” However, others saw no problem because Jessa Seewald did tell the weight of the baby. Some of them claimed the child was a boy named “Judah.” But others didn’t get that part.

The Name & Gender Of The baby Are Unclear?

Watching the video, it seems from the transcript that Jessa didn’t reveal the name or the gender. When one fan congratulated her on her baby boy, another viewer asked, “Him??? Is it a boy?”

In the vlog, Jessa Seewald mentioned: We always keep baby’s gender and name a secret. That’s our tradition. And so when our kids come to the hospital, they get to meet their little sibling for the first time and they get to find out the baby’s gender…

Back on Instagram, one follower thought that “the doctor said it was a girl.” But, another one noted, “you cant hear the doctor due to jessa dubbing her voice over. “ Then, another fan of Jessa wrote, “When they were weighing the baby, you can hear Michelle refer to the baby as ‘him/he.’ It’s a boy!” However, it seems lots of people also missed that bit. In conclusion, another critic summed up their irritation, saying, “Staging this out is ridiculous. Don’t waste your time watching it. They still don’t tell you what she had—just a 10-pound baby, but it looks like a boy.”

Her current birth story is collecting views right now

George’s birth isn’t the only birth story that is bringing in views. The still-unnamed baby’s birth story is also causing a spike in Jessa’s metrics. In the five days since uploading the first birth video, Jessa’s videos have been viewed over 800,000 times. She was averaging fewer than 50,000 views in the five days preceding the first upload. In addition to plenty of views, she’s gained subscribers, too. Since uploading the first part of Baby #6’s birth story, Jessa has gained 5,000 subscribers. Her subscriber count had remained mostly flat in the two weeks before the upload, according to Social Blade.

How much does Jessa Seewald make from YouTube?

Jessa Seewald’s YouTube channel has certainly seen a spike in views and subscribers every time she uploads her birth story videos, but how do those views translate into cold, hard cash? Not all creators are equal on YouTube, and some categories earn more per view than others. While it’s impossible to offer an exact number, we can estimate the amount Jessa Seewald has earned from her birth story content on YouTube.

According to Hootsuite, the average YouTuber can expect to earn between $5 and $15 for every 1,000 ad views. Now, some content genres earn more than others, with Lifestyle content creators like Jessa earning towards the lower end of the range. According to the same study, YouTube videos have an average ad viewing rate somewhere between 50% and 70%.

If we assume Jessa earns $5 per 1,000 ad views and has a view rate of around 50% she has earned over $2,000 so far for the two-part birth story. The video revealing the baby’s name and gender is likely to garner more attention, which will generate a larger payout. Jessa uploaded a two-part birth story when George was born. The uploads garnered 1.3 million views. Her fourth child’s birth story went viral, gaining over 4.5 million views since its upload. She likely earned around $3300 for George’s birth story and over $11,000 for revealing Fern Seewald’s name and gender on YouTube. That’s assuming the lowest payout rate, though.

Jessa doesn’t just upload her birth stories. Over the last several months, she’s added other pregnancy-related content, which has done fairly well. Interest in the Duggar family remains strong, especially when it comes to the older sister and their growing family. It makes sense that Jessa would want to capitalize on that.
