Jason Duggar and his wife Maddie are sharing that they won’t be growing their family anytime soon.
The 19 Kids and Counting alum, 25, and his wife appeared on Jason’s sister Jinger Duggar Vuolo’s podcast Jinger and Jeremy and shared that they aren’t planning on trying to have a baby in the foreseeable future.
Jason began by jokingly announcing that the couple is pregnant, which prompted Maddie to say, “He does that to me all the time. We are not expecting at all. We are not trying to be expecting.”
“Stop saying we’re expecting, that’s for whoever is listening,” Jason added.

The couple, who tied the knot last October, explained that they have a reason they’re not starting a family yet. “I’m trying to finish up school,” Maddie shared. Although Maddie, 21, admitted that she and Jason do have a bit of baby fever, she said they won’t start trying until after she gets her degree in May.
“I want to just enjoy this time. I can always get pregnant later on, Lord willing,” Maddie said. “But right now, we just want to chill. We’re still getting to know each other. We know each other, but you’re still getting to know each other in the first year of marriage.”
For now, there will be no little ones. “No babies at all. We just babysit and get humbled,” said Maddie.
In an April 2025 video on their YouTube channel, Jason and Maddie echoed these same sentiments and explained how Jason’s older siblings played a role in their decision to wait to have kids.
“Some of the couples in my family have said like, ‘Hey, we wish we would’ve waited a little bit — that way we could travel and do different things,’ ” Jason said. “So that’s something we both wanted.”
They also said that they didn’t want to have a lot of kids like the rest of Jason’s family, with Maddie adding that six kids was “pushing it.”
“I loved having 18 siblings, it’s wonderful being in a big family,” Jason said. “I do love that my parents, I think their calling really was having all 19 kids. I really do believe that. But for us, we also want to enjoy every stage that the Lord has us in.”
