Inside Jana Duggar’s $275K Nebraska Fixer-Upper Makeover Before Baby Arrives

Former reality star Jana Duggar has revealed that she is expecting her first child with husband Stephen Wissmann—just one year after the “19 Kids and Counting” alum moved out of the family home and into a $275,000 fixer-upper in Nebraska with her new spouse. Jana, 35, shared the joyful news in an Instagram post, revealing that she and her husband, who wed in August 2024, will welcome their “little bundle of joy” in January 2026.

“We are so excited, January 2026 is going to come with a little bundle of joy joining our family!” she wrote alongside several images of herself posing with her husband and showing off her growing bump. The pregnancy announcement is the latest in a long line of milestones for the couple—whose lives have changed dramatically in the past year.

Jana and her husband revealed soon after their August 2024 wedding that they had relocated from Arkansas to Nebraska, where Wissmann had purchased a fixer-upper abode for $275,000.

First came the duo’s wedding, which took place in the bride’s home state of Arkansas and was attended by 500 guests and saw several of Jana’s sisters serving as bridesmaids. Then, just a few weeks after tying the knot, the couple announced another big change in their life: a move away from Arkansas, where Jana was still living in the family’s infamous compound, and into a fixer-upper home in Nebraska that her husband had bought for $275,000.

Jana quickly began sharing the renovation process on her YouTube channel, admitting that, while she had moved out of her family’s home, she hadn’t hesitated to call her parents to help with their DIY project. “I’m so excited to show you all this space and share with you our renovation plans,” the former TLC star said in one YouTube video. “I cannot wait to see this project come together in real life.”

Soon after, she began documenting the renovations that she and Stephen were carrying out on their new home.

Jana, who is one of the oldest of Jim Bob and wife Michelle‘s 19 children, first revealed her plans to relocate to Nebraska with her husband in an interview with People magazine, explaining that Stephen already owned a property that they were planning to renovate. “He has a little house we bought that we’ve been fixing up and getting pulled together, and so that’s been fun,” she said at the time.

The property pales in comparison to the enormous home the Duggars featured in their series of reality shows, which began in September 2008 and ran for seven years before ultimately being canceled amid her brother Josh’s s*xual ass*ult allegati*ns.

She explained that the couple were planning to do most of the work on the home themselves—with a little bit of help from her family.

Jana’s move away from her family home marked an important step for the eldest Duggar daughter, who, until her marriage, had remained closely intertwined with the lives of her parents, even as her other siblings cut their ties. Still, she and Stephen had quite the challenge in front of them in terms of turning their home into a dream dwelling for their growing family—with Jana’s YouTube video revealing a very dated interior that was in desperate need of a refresh.

In her first video showcasing the property, Jana entered the 2,152-square-foot home, revealing a spacious floor plan with bedrooms on every story, as well as a basement and a sizable living area. The reasonably priced, ranch-style home is in northwest Lincoln. It has a main living room with super shiny flooring and two windows, and it flows to the dining area and galley-style kitchen.

Jana’s latest renovation video revealed that the home was nearly completed

There are three bedrooms on the first level, while the other two are on the lower floor, along with a rec room and second bath. The yard is fully fenced, and there’s also a storage shed and a two-car garage. Their first project involved combining two of the first-floor bedrooms into a primary suite, which would include an en suite bathroom, Jana explained. Meanwhile, the duo carried out a full gut renovation of the kitchen, with the newly pregnant reality star turned YouTuber admitting that they’d had to set up a temporary cooking space in another room while they completed the work.

She captured clips of herself cutting and sanding wood in order to make shelves for one of their coat closets.

In her most recent video about the renovation, which was posted in April, Jana revealed that work on the property was essentially complete, with just a few additional design details left to finish off. Among these were the addition of a ventilation system in the kitchen, which the former TLC star showed herself completing with relative ease—before she moved on to cutting wood that would serve as new shelves inside one of their cupboards.

While Jana ran into a slight complication when she realized that she had failed to cut the wood to the right size for the space, she managed to trim it down to be the perfect fit after a few more tries. “As the saying goes, ‘Measure twice, cut once,'” she joked as she set about trimming the wood yet again.

Toward the end of the clip, she proudly showed off a completed living space.

She and Stephen were also seen putting together furniture for various spaces in the home, before unboxing some larger items, like a new swivel chair for the living room. The video revealed that the couple had gone for a largely neutral aesthetic in their home, which featured white marble accents in the kitchen, and plenty of beige tones in the living room.

Though Jana previously conceded that the project was a huge undertaking, she admitted to her YouTube viewers that there was something very special about building a home with her husband that they knew was going to serve as a base for their family for years to come.

“Putting in a whole new kitchen has definitely been a huge undertaking,” she said. “Especially since we’ve been doing so much of the work ourselves, with the help of family and friends. “But it’s just so rewarding to see this project coming together. I imagine it’ll be so much more meaningful to use the space in the years to come, remembering all the hard work and elbow grease we put into making this space what it is.”
