Jana Duggar Opens Up About Her Life-Changing Decision

“I know my life is about to change in many ways,” Jana Duggar said in a YouTube video filmed before her big move. At the time, she was talking about marriage and relocating to Nebraska — but now, those changes are even bigger. The Counting On alum, 34, is not only settling into her new life with husband Stephen Wissmann, but the couple has since revealed that they are expecting their first child together.

In her recently shared YouTube video, filmed prior to their August wedding, Jana opened up about saying goodbye to her tiny house in Arkansas and the peaceful farm setting she had called home for years. “I am treasuring these quiet mornings on the farm,” she said while panning across the lush, green acreage. She captured shots of the animals roaming nearby, adding, “The baby sheep toddling around are just so cute.”

The former reality star admitted she expected to miss the tranquil lifestyle once she moved to more city-like surroundings in Nebraska. “I am so excited for what lies ahead but I am also sure that I’ll have moments when I miss the farm,” she said. “The sun rising over the orchard, the garden, the animals — it’s just so peaceful out here.” Now, with a baby on the way, those reflections feel even more meaningful, as Jana prepares to start her own family in a new state.

Renovating Their Nebraska Home — While Preparing for Baby

Jana and Stephen have continued renovating their Nebraska fixer-upper, a project she frequently documents for her followers. In the video, Jana shared that their new flooring had finally been installed — though not without complications. “It was going pretty good, although we did put the underlayment in the wrong way and then the flooring was not quite going in like we wanted it to,” she admitted with a laugh. The couple ended up re-boxing and returning the flooring before purchasing a better option.

With help from her sisters and Stephen’s construction experience, the couple pushed through the hiccups. Jana has since shared several renovation updates, including a dramatic kitchen transformation featuring fresh white countertops, gold hardware, and beautifully sprayed cabinets — a task Stephen expertly handled thanks to his commercial painting experience.

A New Chapter: Marriage, a New Home & Now a Baby

Jana — the eldest daughter of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar’s 19 children — married Stephen on August 15, 2024, in Prairie Grove, Arkansas. Shortly after their wedding, she confirmed she would be relocating to Nebraska permanently as the couple worked on their new home. “He has a little house we bought that we’ve been fixing up and getting pulled together, and so that’s been fun,” she told PEOPLE at the time. Now, the pair has even more reason to finish preparing their home as they get ready to welcome their first child.
