Josh Duggar is currently broke while serving time in jail over child p*rn charges. The controversial TLC celeb wants to appeal his conviction and recently begged for help. What do we know about this ongoing situation and where things currently stand?
Josh Duggar Has Been Behind Bars For Some Time
As longtime Duggar fans know, Josh Duggar rose to prominence with the rest of his family on 19 Kids And Counting. There have also been spinoffs, including Counting On. However, the reality for Josh Duggar has been far more sobering than what was depicted for all of those years on TLC.
Josh Duggar is currently serving a 151-month sentence at FCI Seagoville in Dallas, Texas. Barring an appeal or anything of that nature, he is not scheduled for release until October of 2032. So, if he does stay incarcerated for the full term, that is some years before he would be let out.
Duggar Broke And Begging For Help
Josh Duggar has been looking to appeal his case but has already had several appeals denied. With that in mind, he is now begging the courts to provide him with a new legal team. According to Duggar, he is broke, and he does not have the finances to gather his own lawyers.
Court papers obtained by The US Sun state that Duggar “requests that this Honorable Court appoint counsel to assist in evaluating and potentially preparing a motion.” According to Duggar, there are some “issues” with his case, and that these issues “may be relevant for a collateral attack and require skilled legal counsel to thoroughly review and evaluate all potential grounds for relief.”
Josh Duggar Makes Plea For Assistance
Josh Duggar’s case is something that a lot of people continue to follow. Since his trial in 2021, Duggar claims that “new legal theories and strategies have emerged” that are relevant to his case. Another big problem, however, is that he does not have the funds necessary to secure his own legal team to further his cause.
Josh Duggar said, “I am unable to afford counsel due to my current financial circumstances.” Because of this, Duggar “requests counsel for the limited purpose of reviewing the record, evaluating possible constitutional claims, and, if meritorious grounds exist, preparing and filing a§ 2255 motion.” This is a motion to “challenge a conviction or sentence.”
Josh Duggar made a plea for assistance with his current situation, saying, “I am currently incarcerated, and I respectfully request the assistance of counsel to determine whether constitutional violations occurred that may entitle me to relief under 28 U.S.C. § 2255. I ask the Court to consider my request in light of the complexity of my case and the time-sensitive nature of the statutory deadline.”
