Sister Wives’ Kody Considered ‘Walking Away’ From Marriage to Robyn

Sister Wives star Kody Brown revealed that he once considered “walking away” from his marriage to his last remaining wife, Robyn Brown.

During the Sunday, April 27, episode of the TLC show, Kody, 56, and Robyn, 46, reflected on the state of their relationship while going on a Valentine’s Day date. The conversation had them discussing their thoughts on polygamy after his three wives Meri Brown, Janelle Brown and Christine Brown left their plural family.

After Kody told Robyn he felt that he had been “slapped by polygamy,” he admitted that “it’s hard not to be bitter about the fact that I bought off on it and did it because in the end, in the last moments of it, it felt terrible.”

Robyn then asked if he was “missing what it was before” their family fell apart, and Kody said that her question was “loaded.”

“I don’t want to be flippant with my answer because we were devoted to this, but I’m not interested in plural marriage anymore,” he said in a confessional. “I don’t want to pursue another woman because I don’t want that headache, the questions, the struggles, the wonder about trust. I’m not in that space.”

While he said that his children are a “blessing” that came out of his failed marriages, he added that he felt “completely discouraged by the idea that people feel obligated” to be in polygamous marriages.

Robyn revealed she was just as impacted by the experience, saying that she was “heartbroken by all of this and trying to make sense of it.”

The mother of five – who had been open about always wanting to be in a polygamous marriage – added in a confessional that she was “very scared of plural marriage” because of “what has happened” to their family.

Kody said he is currently “at peace” with the state of his and Robyn’s monogamous relationship, though admitted that wasn’t always the case.

“Because I’ve been in plural marriage for so long and it was a sole focus of marriage for me, when we failed at it, I was sabotaging myself,” he shared. “There were days unfair to Robyn that I thought about just walking away from our relationship, too. And that was just because I was so broken, I became self-destructive.”

The father of 18 then apologized to Robyn “for the dark space” he created when he tried to sabotage their marriage. After noting that his actions “harmed” her, he said that “it wasn’t fair” to her.

“Because I was angry, you’re withdrawing from me,” he continued. “And because you were withdrawing from me, I was experiencing not just the anger from the rejection and the anger from the failure of our failures in plural marriage and everything that I was experiencing there, it was causing me to literally have bad thoughts about us.”

As fans of the reality show know, Christine, 53, was Kody’s first ex to leave him in November 2021. Janelle, 55, followed suit in December 2022, while Meri, 54, and Kody confirmed their split by issuing a joint statement in January 2023.
