It’s Official! ‘Dutton Ranch’ Finally Makes the Announcement Fans Have Been Hoping For!

Dutton Ranch

Dutton Ranch, the Yellowstone spinoff starring Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser, has officially been renewed for a second season. The news comes just weeks after the series premiered on May 15 and quickly became a major success for the streamer. According to Paramount+, Dutton Ranch drew 12.9 million global viewers in its first seven days, marking the biggest original series launch in the platform’s history.

The series also delivered 2.9 million total viewers during its two-episode debut on Paramount Network on May 15, making it the biggest cable series premiere since 2023, per a press release. “Beth and Rip are among the most iconic duos in television history and we are thrilled to bring a whole new world to life with Dutton Ranch for our subscribers around the world,” Jane Wiseman, head of originals for Paramount+, said in a statement. “We’re also incredibly grateful to our partners, including the teams at Paramount Television Studios and 101 Studios, for bringing this new series to life with such grit, heart and authenticity.”

Matt Thunell, president of Paramount Television Studios, added, “Dutton Ranch has resonated with audiences in a powerful way, building on the legacy of beloved characters, while establishing its own identity. Thank you to our partners at Paramount+ and 101 Studios for a phenomenal first season. We look forward to bringing fans more stories from these unforgettable characters in season 2.”

The spinoff follows Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler as they attempt to build a future together away from Montana, only to face brutal new challenges and dangerous enemies in South Texas. Reilly, 48, and Hauser, 51, have portrayed Beth and Rip for nearly a decade, first introducing the fan-favorite characters in Yellowstone in 2018. Beth, the daughter of the late John Dutton (Kevin Costner), and Rip, the Dutton ranch’s longtime foreman and fixer, have become one of TV’s most beloved and volatile couples.

Speaking to PEOPLE ahead of the series premiere in May, Reilly reflected on the complicated history between the pair. “There was such a history of Beth and Rip and what they meant to each other,” Reilly said of the couple, whose romance began when they were teenagers. “But she was pretty awful to him at the beginning [of the show].”

“I actually thought it was funny. I’m a little sick that way,” Hauser added with a laugh. “I thought the relationship was so bizarre, and [creator] Taylor Sheridan took such a great risk with starting the characters the way that he did. That gave room for Kelly and me to be able to take even more risks with them and play.”

“That’s the thing that Taylor does as a writer is that he gives you this freedom, whether you know it or not, to actually really be creative and try new things,” Hauser continued. “The Beth-Rip relationship, it’s so much different than any other relationship I’ve ever had on camera. It’s hot, it’s cold, it’s beautiful, it’s angry, it’s passionate.”

Over time, Beth and Rip found a steadier rhythm together — something Reilly says carries directly into the new series. “He allows her to be who she is, and she just will do anything for him,” Reilly said.

Produced by Paramount Television Studios and 101 Studios, season 1 also stars Finn Little, Juan Pablo Raba, Jai Courtney, J.R. Villarreal, Marc Menchaca and Natalie Alyn Lind, plus Oscar nominees Ed Harris and Annette Bening. The nine-episode first season is executive produced by showrunner Chad Feehan and based on characters created by Sheridan and John Linson. Feehan will not return for season 2, it was previously revealed. Additional executive producers include David C. Glasser, Art Linson, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yari, Christina Alexandra Voros, Michael Friedman, Hauser, Reilly and Keith Cox.

Dutton Ranch premiered with two episodes on Paramount+ on May 15, with new episodes dropping weekly on Fridays. The season 1 finale airs Friday, July 3.
