Dutton Ranch Episode 8’s Ending Just Declared War

Joaquin Reyes (Juan Pablo Raba) makes a fateful phone call that effectively declares war at the end of Dutton Ranch episode 8. Heading into Dutton Ranch‘s season 1 finale, Joaquin is reeling as the expectations of his future were suddenly torn asunder when Beulah Jackson (Annette Bening) announced Rob-Will Jackson (Jai Courtney) as her successor.

Rob-Will will officially take over running the 10-Petals Ranch, and none of that changed after Beulah’s heart attack. When Dutton Ranch episode 8 picks up with Beulah’s recovery, Mama B brought her biological and adopted sons together. Although Beulah ordered Rob-Will and Joaquin to make peace and work together, neither has any intention of honoring Mama B’s wishes. Beulah knows Joaquin was shot in the hand by Chet Davis (Hart Denton) in Dutton Ranch episode 6, but she doesn’t know that Rob-Will was behind Chet trying to murder Kino. Joaquin refuses to work with Rob-Will and vice versa, and both are making plans against the other. However, Joaquin has an ace-in-the-hole he reluctantly called upon that can only lead to violence.

What Joaquin Calling His Father In Dutton Ranch Episode 8 Means

Joqauin screams in Dutton Ranch

Although Dutton Ranch episode 8’s title, “Whiskey Limits,” refers to a hungover Carter’s (Finn Little) misery working as a cowboy at the 10-Petals Ranch, it was Joaquin who was truly pushed to his “whiskey limits” by the end of the hour. After howling in rage, Joaquin picked up a private burner phone and made an emergency phone call to his father, Mariano Reyes (Raoul Max Trujillo).

Joaquin said, “Hola papa. Necesito tu ayuda,” which translates to “Hello father. I need your help.” The kind of help Kino is asking for, however, was hinted at by Austin (Sterlin English), the whistleblowing cowboy who told Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) what he knows about the 10-Petals’ illegal Mexican operation that Mariano Reyes runs.

It’s safe to assume that Joaquin begged his father for men and guns to kill Rob-Will and take the 10-Petals by force. Kino’s agonizing act of calling his father is a point of no return and a declaration of war. It also means he’s turning his back on his adopted family, the Jacksons. As Joaquin told Sheriff Wade (Josh Stewart), he no longer considers the Jacksons his family. As Juan Pablo Raba told ScreenRant, Beulah betraying Kino and giving the 10-Petals to Rob-Will leaves Joaquin with nothing. After dedicating his life to Beulah and the 10-Petals, Kino has no life or money of his own. Joaquin’s entire future depended on Beulah naming him her successor, but Reyes now knows he will never be seen as a Jackson despite being a better son than Rob-Will.

Beth & Rip Are The X-Factor For Rob-Will & Joaquin’s 10-Petals Ranch War

Beth in Dutton Ranch episode 8

Dutton Ranch season 1’s trailer showed clips of gun violence at the 10-Petals, with even Everett McKinney (Ed Harris) armed and fighting at Beulah’s ranch. A shootout is coming in Dutton Ranch‘s season 1 finale, as it seems Mariano Reyes sends men to back Joaquin up. However, Beth and Rip are the real X-factors in the conflict between Rob-Will and Joaquin. Not necessarily in terms of fighting, but in what it could mean for the future of the 10-Petals. Although Rob-Will wants to get rid of them, Rip is still the ranch foreman, and Beth is still Beulah Jackson’s business partner.

Austin gave Beth and Rip the lowdown about the 10-Petals’ illegal theft and importing of cows, with the next shipment due two days after Dutton Ranch episode 8’s ending. Perhaps Rip plans to steal the 10-Petals’ cows himself and lead the ranch’s wranglers to force a change in the way the 10-Petals does business. Beulah fled the hospital prematurely and went to McKinney’s home in Dutton Ranch episode 8, but perhaps Beth can prevail on Mama B to intercede and stop her sons from destroying themselves and the 10-Petals. Ultimately, it’s hard to imagine that the 10-Petals will remain in Rob-Will’s control or go to Joaquin.

Perhaps someone will die in Dutton Ranch‘s season 1 finale, or maybe Beulah takes the reins of the 10-Petals back until a better option for her successor is found. Mariano’s criminal enterprise could also be brought to light. The fate of Joaquin, Rob-Will, and the 10-Petals Ranch will be decided at the end of Dutton Ranch season 1.
