Marshals Season 2: Release Date, Story, & Everything We Know

Kayce’s story in Montana continues in Marshals season 2. Created by Spencer Hudnut, Luke Grimes’ CBS series debuted during the 2025-2026 TV cycle and immediately became a hit. Expanding the Yellowstone franchise in Montana, while Beth and Rip’s story unfolds in Texas, is a great way to continue the legacy of the Duttons. That said, while Marshals is spearheaded by John III’s son, it also features an ensemble of familiar and new faces.

Alongside his son, Tate, Kayce still lives in East Camp — the same settlement he shared with Monica towards the end of Yellowstone‘s run, allowing Thomas Rainwater and Mo to continue playing a big part in their story. Marshals, however, introduced new characters to make up for its titular team — Logan Marshall-Green, Tatanka Means, Ash Santos, and Arielle Kebbel playing Pete Calvin, Miles Kittle, Andrea Cruz, and Belle Skinner, respectively. As its freshman year wraps up, there’s interest in what’s next for Marshals when it returns.

Marshals Season 2 Has Already Been Confirmed By CBS

As the first Yellowstone spinoff set in modern times, Marshals‘ initial hook has always been Kayce. Despite that, Hudnut and his team were able to retrofit the show into a network TV format by shifting its focus away from the Duttons to the weekly operations of Calvin’s team. Essentially, Marshals is now a police procedural set in the Yellowstone universe. Admittedly, the change has been divisive for fans of the flagship, but it broadened its appeal, making it one of the most-watched shows of the cycle.

Because of this, it was a no-brainer for CBS to greenlight Marshals season 2 early on. The renewal was announced long before the show entered its final stretch, which meant that the writers were able to craft a finale without the fear that they wouldn’t be able to complete a cliffhanger in the event that the show was cancelled.

When Will Marshals Season 2 Release?

Despite debuting late in the 2025-2026 TV cycle, the network is actually pushing Marshals season 2 forward in their timeline. Instead of premiering in the midseason, the Yellowstone procedural is now set to return, as confirmed by CBS’s complete fall 2026 schedule. No official release date has been announced, but it will maintain its current Sunday night timeslot, which is unsurprising, considering the broadcaster’s success with Marshals and Tracker‘s pairing.

What Marshals Season 2’s Story Could Be

Marshals season 1 spent the majority of its time establishing Kayce’s new path, as well as the team’s dynamic. While the series started with some of them skeptical of him, at this point, he has eventually won them over. Because of that, expect that Marshals season 2 can delve deeper into their camaraderie while also tackling their weekly cases. The brewing storyline about East Camp’s ownership is also going to be a major point in its sophomore year, especially as Kayce grows closer to Tom Weaver and his daughter, Dolly.

Whether the much-clamored crossover finally happens in Marshals season 2 is currently up in the air. After Beth and Rip moved to Texas in Paramount+s Dutton Ranch, Sheridan and his creative team need to be more innovative when staging the reunion between John III’s surviving children. On top of that, it will also depend on the future of the latest Yellowstone franchise spinoff starring Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser, as it has yet to be renewed beyond its current run.
