It’s Officially the End of an Era for Taylor Sheridan

Streaming juggernauts like Disney+, Netflix, and Amazon Prime Video battle for viewers every month, but they’re all about to face a new challenger that will be armed with the catalog of one of the most potent creators in television: Taylor Sheridan. Reports in May indicated that the pending merger between Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount would eventually lead to a single, gargantuan streaming service, which would yield a subscriber base over 200 million worldwide. HBO Max boasts the entirety of HBO’s storied catalog of prestige television series along with several key content hubs after HBO’s merger with Discovery.

The platform now known as Paramount+ has an even more tangled history, as it’s undergone several transformations already in its existence. After beginning as an all-access platform for CBS’ existing catalog, it’s expanded to include original TV series. Many of the most-streamed series in the platform’s history come from streaming king Taylor Sheridan, the writer, director, and producer behind shows like YellowstoneTulsa KingLioness, and Mayor of Kingstown. We now have a better idea of what the fate of Sheridan’s current catalog of shows will be (assuming the success of the merger), along with where audiences can find his future content.

Taylor Sheridan’s litany of hit thrillers and dramas will soon be found on the same streaming platform as all-time hits like Game of ThronesThe Sopranos, and The Wire. While the branding of a combined Paramount/HBO Max platform hasn’t yet been clarified, the brand value of HBO likely points toward that moniker remaining part of the new platform’s title.

It will be tough to argue against that platform as the pre-eminent destination for streaming television moving forward, especially with many of Sheridan’s most beloved shows still in progress, likely drawing people to the new streamer when the merger occurs. However, there is a limit to how far the pull of Taylor Sheridan will be able to go thanks to a major career move the prolific creator made recently.

Taylor Sheridan Is Leaving Paramount for NBCUniversal in 2029 Anyway

In late 2025, it was reported that Taylor Sheridan was leaving Paramount for NBCUniversal when his contract with Paramount comes to a close at the end of 2028. The deal is reportedly valued at over $1 billion, and will include provisions for Sheridan to have his hands on movie, television, and other streaming content, all exclusively for NBCUniversal.

It’s important to note that although he’ll be producing new TV shows that will stream on Peacock and movies that will be distributed by Universal, Sheridan’s existing catalog will remain with Paramount. Shows like Dutton RanchYellowstone, and Tulsa King will remain on the new joint HBO Max/Paramount streaming platform, while any new Sheridan content heads elsewhere.
