Dutton Ranch And Yellowstone’s Kelly Reilly Gets Unexpected Message During TV Show

Yellowstone star Kelly Reilly received an unexpected surprise when a former teacher sent her a message during a live television broadcast in the UK.

The British actress – who is returning to her role as Beth Dutton in the forthcoming spin-off Dutton Ranch – was appearing on BBC programme The One Show when the teacher made contact, reports the Express.

Kelly had been discussing her new series with presenters Alex Jones and Roman Kemp, when Roman announced: “We have had some lovely messages and I wanted to get to this one. Liz says, ‘I taught Kelly back in the late 80s at Tolworth Girls’ School. It’s been a joy seeing her career develop. I told you you could do it. Mrs Brown, head of PE’.”

“Ah!” the star responded, looking touched. “Oh, that’s so nice.” She chuckled: “It probably wasn’t my best subject, PE, but that was very nice of her. Thank you.”

Yellowstone aired from 2018 to 2024, with Kelly portraying Beth, the daughter of ranch proprietor John Dutton (Kevin Costner), whose romance with ranch hand Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) was considered by many as the heart of the show. The new series Dutton Ranch follows Beth and Rip as they embark on a new chapter in Texas.

When asked whether she anticipated how massively popular the contemporary Western would become, the star responded: “No. I mean, you start every single job hoping that someone will watch it and hoping that, you know, you do a good job and that it reaches. But the script was amazing, and it had Kevin Costner.”

“It had all the right ingredients, but you just I mean, for it to go six seasons and then to have this spin-off, it’s sort of quite a wild ride for me,” Kelly continued.

The actress also revealed how much she relished filming a series that featured horses, as horseback riding was a childhood passion of hers.

She explained: “When we would finish filming on the horses and everyone would get in their cars down the mountain back to their trailers, I’d stay on my horse and I’d ride back down. And it was such a pinch me – for me, from Surrey, England, to be filming in the middle of this extraordinary mountainous range of Montana… It sort of moves you, it’s so beautiful.

“And so I just thought, ‘I’m not going to have this forever. I’m going to really enjoy it and really soak this in as much as I can’.” She continued: “If someone had said to me at 14 when I was with my horse, Charlie, in the field, that I was going to be doing another job and being able to ride, it would have been such a… I wouldn’t have believed it.”

The One Show airs at 7pm on BBC One. Dutton Ranch premieres on Friday, May 15 on Paramount+.
